History

Superstition was started in 1974 by Richard Walpole and Ron McGee. Two practical jokesters that became friends and formed a partnership like no other.

Ron and Richard each got their contractors license and began working on their own while still working full time for M&O Construction. This made for very long days and aching backs. They decided to start hiring people to help do the work.

Maintaining this pace for a couple of years, they started to build a reputation for being a quality framing contractor, and in 1977, they landed their first major housing tract with Cavalier Homes.

At about this time Andy Berchtold joined the company, and has since become one of the partners. Andy, also a licensed contractor, working for himself at the time, accepted a position at Superstition. Andy led his experience in trim carpentry to help led the development of the trim division of Superstition and structure the management of the framing and trim crews. In which, most of the superintendents are managed still today, to keep our quality standards high and our communications with our customers.

With this, and seeing the growth in the valley, they recognized a need to start expanding. In 1978 a new home builder, UDC Homes, moved into the Valley. UDC subcontracted much of their framing work to Superstition. UDC Homes was very impressed with the quality of work and the management of Superstition. With this new work there was enough work for six full time framing crews.

Ron and Richard also saw the need for quality roofing subcontractors in the exploding housing market in the Valley. San Tan Roofing was born in 1980. Marion Weidenbener, joined the team with Ron, Richard & Andy, and is also a partner today. (Read more on San Tan and Marion at their web site)

In 1997 Vince Palazzolo was brought in from the field to organize the bidding and estimating department. Having worked for the company for many years he was able to put his experience to use to help the company grow and move forward. Vince is also partner in the company.

Today, Superstition has a lot more crews and employees to support both the field and administrative duties. The prosperity of these entities is based on a foundation laid by Richard, Ron, Andy, Marion & Vince. They are very proud of the Companies they have built. They realize, however, that a structure is only as strong as its members. With that philosophy, they have always tried to maintain a high level of fairness and respect with their employees. They know that where they are today, is not only from their hard work, but also from the hard work of their employees.
